Frank Lampard appeared to tell Roy Keane to “get some f***ing balls”

Keane remained calm.

Frank Lampard and Roy Keane were involved in a touchline incident during Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 win over Derby County on Monday night at the City Ground.

The match between the local rivals was settled after just 74 seconds thanks to Yohan Benalouane’s goal.

The victory ended Forest’s six-game run without a win.

Martin O’Neill’s team are now three points from the promotion places. Derby, meanwhile, have won just three of their last 12 games in the division and have slipped to seventh place in the Championship, two points behind Bristol City.

With the stakes so high between the promotion rivals, there was bound to be a lot of tension in the match on Monday night. And it seemed to briefly get the better of Lampard late in the game.

In the 74th minute, with Derby searching for an equaliser, their manager appeared to confront Keane on the touchline.

Lampard was caught on camera marching towards the Forest assistant manager, who had his eyes fixed on the action on the pitch.

The Derby coach appeared to tell Keane to “get some f***ing balls.” Keane did not react.

The pair came up against each other on numerous occasions during their playing careers and they are remembered as two of the best midfielders of the last 30-years.

Roy Keane was Manchester United’s captain during their most successful period, helping them win seven Premier League titles. Lampard was in the heart of Chelsea’s midfield as they won three Premier League titles.

The Derby manager spoke highly of Keane ahead of Monday’s game, so there is no suggestion that there is any animosity between the pair.

“I grew up loving Roy Keane as a player,” Lampard said. “He was someone I hugely looked up to as a young player coming through.”
