Former Premier League winger gets own team’s name wrong on tattoo

You had one job!

Is there an epidemic of footballing figures forgetting the name of their own team?

We’ve already witnessed Harry Redknapp’s ‘South Coast Mariners’ gaffe, and now World Cup finalist Eljero Elia is at it too.

Well, either that or he’s got a very vindictive tattooist.

Elia is back at Feyenoord following a loan spell with Southampton in the Premier League, and was part of the team that won the KNVB Cup – the Dutch equivalent of the FA Cup – in April.

The winger created the winning goal when his shot hit the post and rebounded in off Utrecht goalkeeper Filip Bednarek, and he chose to commemorate the moment as so many players do – by getting a tattoo.

There was only one problem, though. When the time came to show off the ink, Elia had discovered that one of the words was spelled wrong. And not just any word, but the name of the team for which he plays.

‘Fenenoord’ might be close, but close doesn’t cut it.

Oh, and Eljero, April’s the fourth month not the fifth.

We’re starting to think the tattoo artist might have been an Ajax fan.
