Keith Gillespie lands elbow on opponent in Manchester United charity game

This doesn’t look good.

A Manchester United legends team were down under to take-on an Australian XI in Perth on Saturday, and it included some great names of the club’s past.

Paul Scholes, Bryan Robson, Denis Irwin, Dwight Yorke and Louis Saha were among the former United players to take part in the charity match. Keith Gillespie was also included.

 

The 42-year-old former Northern Ireland winger played came through the youth system at United, and was a member of the first-team squad for two years before joining Newcastle United in 1995.

Gillespie was a talented player, but didn’t make much of a mark at Old Trafford. However, he definitely made a mark in the charity game in Australia.

With the United legends trailing three-nil, Gillespie was filmed throwing an elbow at Dean Heffernan, the Australian team’s left-back, in an off the ball incident and knocked him to the ground.

According to Fox Sports, Heffernan couldn’t travel home after the game on Saturday night, and had to remain in a Perth hospital for scans.

The former Huddersfield Town and Australian international defender reportedly struggled to remember the incident and suffered damage to his jaw as well as some chipped teeth.
