Barcelona have barely even paid for him
Barcelona still owe Manchester City over half of the transfer fee they paid to sign Ferran Torres.
Torres joined the LaLiga side in December, 2021 in a time where they were – and still are – experiencing severe financial difficulties.
Club president, Javier Tebas, has been forced to activate ‘economic levers’ throughout the previous transfer window to try and balance the books and register all of their new signings.
However a report from Laia Tudel of Catalunya Ràdio has claimed that Barça still owe Man City a significant amount of the fee they paid to sing the winger.
Man City are reportedly owed €52m, with the Catalan club only sending €3m to the Premier League holders. Torres featured heavily at the Camp Nou when he first joined the club but has been used more sporadically this summer.
The 22-year-old has made five league appearances and has either been substituted or came off the bench late on. Torres also played in the opening two Champions League group stage fixtures and scored and assisted one in the 5-1 win against Viktoria Plzeň.
City meanwhile have adapted to life without the Spain international comfortably. The arrival of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez has helped Pep Guardiola’s side climb to second in the table and sit one point behind current leaders Arsenal.
Haaland in particular has found life in England particularly easy and already has 14 goals from his opening 10 games in all competitions.
Barcelona face Mallorca away from home on Saturday whereas City face local rivals Manchester United in the first derby of the season at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
