Oscar will leave Chelsea for Shanghai SIPG in January.

Chelsea confirmed in a statement on Friday morning that the club had sold the midfielder to the Chinese Super League outfit in a reported £60m deal.

After a four-and-a-half year stint at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are set to make an astonishing £35 million profit on the 25-year-old.

The move will also see Oscar become the most expensive player in China and the world’s highest paid player pre-tax. It is understood that Shanghai will pay him a whopping £400,000-a-week, overtaking the current highest earner in his new teammate Hulk who is on a staggering £317,000-a-week. It will also see him surpass the £365,000-a-week salary that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are believed to be on.

A statement released by Chelsea read:

“Chelsea Football Club and Shanghai SIPG have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Oscar.”

“The 25-year-old will join the Chinese Super League team at the beginning of the January transfer window. He has been a Chelsea player for four-and-a-half years, helping us lift the Premier League, League Cup and Europa League as well as scooping two Chelsea Goal of the Season awards after stunning strikes against Juventus in 2012, on his full debut, and QPR in 2014.”

Unsurprisingly, the reaction on social media to the mammoth move has been fairly negative with fans already writing Oscar’s career obituary. Although, the Chelsea board has been receiving some serious praise for managing to get such a high fee for the player.
