The Wigan owner has probably just made things worse.
Yesterday, the FA agreed to extend by a week the time it gave Wigan owner Dave Whelan to respond to the initial charges it brought against him for his recent comments that offended the Jewish and Chinese communities.
So, what did Whelan do today? Well, in an interview with the Jewish Telegraph, Whelan said this, as reported in the Guardian.
“When I was growing up we used to call the Chinese ‘chingalings’. We weren’t being disrespected. We used to say, ‘we’re going to eat in chingalings’.
“The Chinese weren’t offended by that. That was the name everyone in Wigan called [the first Chinese cafe in Wigan].”
Looks like another long day for the people in Wigan's PR department
