Daryl Murphy is doing his utmost to secure starting place in France with Championship brace

On the double

Darragh Murphy

Daryl Murphy’s sister is no longer leading the line for Ipswich.

Rather, the clinical striker has finally rediscovered his goalscoring boots (and head) as he tried to claw his way back into the Championship’s top scorer stakes.

Murphy, who finished top scorer last season, hadn’t found the net this season before treating himself to a hat-trick against Rotherham three weeks ago which prompted manager Mick McCarthy to say: “Welcome back Murph, we don’t want to see your sister again who’s been playing in recent weeks.”

It was just the two for Murphy this weekend as he opened the scoring at the Valley by taking advantage of some relentless Ipswich pressure and benefiting from an uncleared ball in the Charlton box.

And the Irish international put the game beyond Charlton with twenty minutes left to play as he powered the ball with his left foot into the bottom right corner of Stephen Henderson’s goal.

Could he be our saviour in France?
