Alves has been sentence to four and a half years in prison.

Dani Alves has been found guilty by a court in Spain of raping a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona.

The former Brazil and Barcelona player has been handed a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

Alves, 40, denied sexually assaulting the woman in the early hours of December 31, 2022. The 40-year-old’s lawyer had asked for him to be acquitted so Alves could appeal against the sentence.

Alves was accused of luring the woman to a toilet in a VIP section of the nightclub. He said that she could have left ‘if she wanted to’. The Spanish court, however, found that the woman did not consent.

The court also said in a statement that there was evidence other than the victim’s testimony that proved she had been raped.
