CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev received two yellow cards in the space of 10 seconds during Moscow’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Akinfeev was sent off in the 96th minute after referee Ovidiu Hategan dismissed the Russian goalkeeper for dissent after he pleaded with Hategan to punish Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane for what he felt was an attempt to win a late penalty.

Hategan dismissed Akinfeev with back-to-back yellow cards but Moscow still ultimately held on to clinch a vital 1-0 win.

CSKA Moscow manager Viktor Goncharenko said that he hopes that Akinfeev is suspended for just one match with Moscow set to take on Roma later this month.

“At the break I had to calm down the team, there were those who could not believe the advantage,” said Goncharenko after the match.

“The start of recovery was better than the first half finish, We also had chances to double, I do not know if there was a second yellow for Akinfeev, I hope he is disqualified for only one round because it’s very important to us Vlasic is having a great performance, not just in this race.

“He understood that he must be the leader of a dressing room so young, helping both offensively and defensively, he is ambitious and we can say that his goal has defeated Real.”
