Cristiano Ronaldo hits back at ‘lies’ about his future after Man United meeting

Cristiano Ronaldo has had his say on speculation regarding his future. Ronaldo is said to have expressed his desire to leave Manchester United this summer after they failed to secure Champions League football with a sixth-placed finish. The Portugal captain is said to have held talks with the club on Tuesday, where Man United chiefs attempted to persuade the legendary player to remain at Old Trafford. The 37-year-old, however, reportedly reiterated that he wanted to move on. Yet, Ronaldo has seemingly dismissed this version of events.

On Thursday, an Instagram account dedicated to news about Ronaldo wrote: "Jorge Mendes told Manchester United that Cristiano Ronaldo is adamant about leaving, but Mendes left negotiations less than positive that Ronaldo would get his move. Sir Alex Ferguson has intervened. United insist Ronaldo is not for sale." In response, Ronaldo commented: "Impossible not to talk about me one day. Otherwise the press makes no money. You know that if you don't lie you can't get people's attention. Keep going then one day you'll get some news right." Atletico are one of the sides who have been linked with making a move for Ronaldo, but fans of the club are strongly opposed to the former Real Madrid man coming to the Wanda Metropolitano. During their pre-season friendly against Numancia on Wednesday, fans of the club held up a banner which let Ronaldo know that he wouldn't be welcome at the club. "The aforementioned player represents the antithesis of the values that are the hallmarks of our Atleti, such as effort, generosity, simplicity and humility. "Even in the unlikely event that a player in steep decline such as Cristiano Ronaldo could secure a title; we would not accept his signing. "The sense of belonging to our Atletico is not something that is within his reach, to his misfortune, so he could never achieve our affection or recognition.
