Cork beat Tipperary with help from ‘Maradona-esque’ screamer

What a finish!

Cork were victorious over Tipperary in their Munster MFC semi-final on the weekend, winning 2-17 to 0-20 after extra-time.

It was Joe Miskella’s 80th-minute goal that got the Rebels over the line in this classic at Semple Stadium, but the finest finish of the day was Donagh Flynn’s 48th-minute screamer.

The Cork man received the ball right on the half-way line, before gliding and stepping his way past a number of Premier defenders and rifling a shot past the keeper.

And the commentators were not exaggerating when they said it was “kinda like something Maradona would do,” as it did resemble the Argentinian’s 1986 World Cup goal against England.

After the game, Tipp’s joint-manager Michael Donnellan said: “It is disappointing. A lot of people around here feel the better team lost today but look it is what it is – the goal right at the end is a killer blow.

“But super, super proud of the boys and their performance – it was unbelievable. I said it to them out there in the bunch three weeks in a row they’re after giving three unbelievable performances.

“They showed great character and they’re really showed they can be a driving force for the future of Tipperary football.”
