Clinton Morrison reveals that Liverpool fan asked him to tell Jurgen Klopp to “sort it out”

Weakened team

The honeymoon period is well and truly over for Jurgen Klopp.

Many supporters were disappointed at the team that the Liverpool manager picked for his side’s FA Cup third round tie with Exeter City on Friday night.

The Reds needed a late Brad Smith goal to rescue a replay against Exeter and most blame the weakened XI that, in fairness, Klopp had to choose due to the injuries.

And former Ireland international Clinton Morrison, who was on the bench for Exeter for the game, revealed how Liverpool fans at St James Park had vented their frustration to him.

“I don’t think, when we play them at Anfield, he will change the team as much,” Morrison told TalkSport. “I think you will see five or six first-teamers back. Jurgen Klopp knows the Liverpool fans won’t accept (anything less).

“When I was warming up at half-time one of the Liverpool fans shouted out, ‘Oi, Clinton. Tell that Klopp to sort it out. We didn’t come all this way to see this’.

“I know for a fact there were some disgruntled people there who were disappointed in the team he picked.”

Despite not having the familiar names that fans would have been comfortable putting their hopes in, Morrison was pleasantly surprised at the potential of the young team named by Klopp.

“We thought they were there for the taking but they still had a lot of quality,” he said.

“The left-back Brad Smith is a terrific talent. He’s one for the future, and the right-back (Connor Randall) too. I thought they were both very good.

“I still think they had enough quality on the pitch to cause us problems but I just thought we were the better team and we’re slightly disappointed we’re not through.”
