The AC Milan legend takes a step into international management
Clarence Seedorf has been named Cameroon manager, replacing Hugo Broos, after a deal to hire Sven-Goran Eriksson fell through.
The former AC Milan player and manager will have Barcelona and Holland legend Patrick Kluivert by his side as his assistant manager.
It is still unknown how long Seedorf’s contract with the Cameroon national team will be, but it will be announced later this month.
The Dutchman has coached AC Milan, Deportivo La Coruña and Chinese club Shenzhen so far, but failed to last more than six months at any post. He will be hoping international management is better suited to his skillset as a coach.
As we saw from Gareth Southgate’s success with England, for some managers, international football is a better fit for some coaches.
Seedorf will have a year to work with his Cameroon squad before they host the African Cup of Nations next summer after the tournament was moved from January to the European off-season.
