Chris Kamara has his say on Jeff Stelling’s possible retirement

Panic over...

SportsJOE

For many football fans, Saturdays during the football season just wouldn’t be Saturdays during the football season without Jeff Stelling.

The face of Sky’s Soccer Saturday, Jeff has turned keeping us all up to speed with the latest scores into an art form and is much loved by football supporters up and down the land as a result.

With this in mind, you can probably guess how the news that Stelling might be on the cusp of retiring went down on Thursday morning.

“I don’t know how much longer I’ll do presenting – I’ve done it for 40 years,” he told the Daily Star.

“I am not sure how long it will go on for. I might want to put my feet up. I am getting on – the next decision will be retirement.”

As much as we hate the thought of living in a world where Stelling, who has just turned 62, is no longer part of our Saturday afternoon routine, it’s understandable that the man has one eye on his retirement.

“I want to stick my feet up on the beach,” he added. “We spend as much time as we can in Portugal when it isn’t the football season. I love it there. I’d be very happy to spend a bit more time out there.”

So, when can we expect Jeff to call it a day?

Thankfully, it seems that Stelling has at least one more season ahead of him – or at least that’s how we’re interpreting this tweet from his colleague, Chris Kamara.

Kammy took it upon himself to reassure concerned fans that it will be ‘a long time’ before his friend calls it a day.

We hope you’re right, Kammy.
