Chelsea failed with deadline day bid to sign World Cup star

A rare day when a player turns down Chelsea.

In case you lived under a rock over the last month, Chelsea signed some players and lots of them.

From Mykhailo Mudryk to Enzo Fernandez (for a Premier League record transfer, by the way), Todd Boehly hasn't hung around and has backed manager Graham Potter to help turn their fortunes around.

But even though it seems like the Blues are signing every player under the sun, they did fail in an attempt to sign one of the stars of the World Cup.

According to El Chiringuito, Chelsea tried to bring Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat to Stamford Bridge but were rebuffed in their attempts.

Amrabat was linked with a number of clubs around Europe after a string of excellent performances saw him help guide Morocco to the semi finals of the World Cup - becoming the first African nation to go that far in the tournament.

The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona were all interested but the Italian side dug their heels in and said that he would not be leaving.

Chelsea were busy on both the incomings and departures front as midfielder Jorginho left, moving to north London to join rivals Arsenal.

He moved to the Gunners for £12m and upon making the move to the Emirates Stadium said: "I’m very excited for this new challenge, and I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest! Everything has happened so fast. I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge.

"It’s an important shirt. It’s an amazing club, a big one, and I’m really excited and happy to be here."
