No matter what he might say, Adam Haworth is a hero.
You may not recognise the name, but if you’re an internet user who’s fond of the beautiful game, odds are you’ve seen this man a lot since last weekends round of Premier League matches.
The Burnley fan rose to the dizzying heights of internet stardom for his heroic act caught on camera during his club’s 1-1 draw at home to league leaders Chelsea on Sunday.
Haworth was watching the match with his family from behind the goal when Ashley Barnes rifled that wayward shot straight towards their direction. He managed to stick out both arms and push the ball safely away from his young son.
You’d shudder to think what would have happened if that ferocious effort had connected with the child’s head, but luckily we don’t have to worry about the worst case scenario, and we have his Dad to thank for that.
The clip of Haworth saving his son has been racking up the views, retweets, shares and likes on every available social media platform, turning him into an overnight cewebrity.
However, you can tell from his appearance on ITV News that he has not let the fame get to him. In his own words, he “did what every dad would do.”
“I’m not a hero, he’s my son.”
“His head yesterday would have been replaced by a football so I did what every dad would do.
Claiming to not be one only makes him more of a hero in our eyes. The truth is he’s always been one because he’s always had that attitude.
