Bryan Robson still thinks Ryan Giggs could be better than Pep Guardiola if he was offered the Manchester United job

Well if Robbo thinks so, then why wait.

Louis van Gaal’s time as Manchester United manager you would have to feel is drawing ever shorter as the Dutchman faces a possible career-defining 48 hours in charge at Old Trafford.

An exit from Europe this week against Liverpool could be the final nail in his Dutch elm coffin as the season comes to its conclusion.

And while Jose Mourinho has been linked with the job on a daily basis since Christmas, Ryan Giggs has also been talked of a possible successor to the ex-Ajax boss.

His mate Paul Scholes has denied his criticism of LvG is related to his friend angling for the job, and Bryan Robson, a former club captain, has once again cast his vote for the Welsh winger to get the big gig (pun intended) this summer.

According to The Guardian, Robson feels Giggs now has the experience and the knowledge, to become the club’s manager.

“The thing for me is that Van Gaal was always going to be a three-year contract with Ryan working under him so that they could see whether he was ready to step in.

“Ryan was a great player for this club, he loves playing football the United way, he’s done all his badges and for me he’s in the right place at the right time.”

A stopped clock is also at the right time twice a day, but the right place for any right-minded coach seems to be far away from Old Trafford at present. Giggs’ only managerial experience was a caretaker boss when David Moyes was sacked three years ago.

Even still, Robson feels the assistant coach has earned the chance to take on the top job at his boyhood club.

“People say it’s too big a challenge, too big a jump. But I don’t agree. Look at Pep Guardiola, he came through the ranks at Barcelona as a player and then as a young coach and then they trusted he and he stepped up. He was tremendously successful.

“It’s the same with Ryan. He knows what this club is all about and the fans would be totally behind the club if they made that decision and totally behind Ryan.”
