Bruno Fernandes was left feeling emotional after a reporter heaped praise on the Manchester United captain.
Fernandes was speaking to the media after captaining United to a dramatic 4-3 win against Liverpool in their FA Cup quarter final on Sunday.
The midfielder was everywhere for the Red Devils and even had to fill in at centre back for the final minutes of extra time, in which Amad Diallo scored the winner in stoppage time of extra time.
Since his move to Old Trafford in 2020, Fernandes has been a near ever-present and during his interview with MUTV, sang the praises of Diallo as well as Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka ('Azza').
As the MUTV interview began to come to an end, the reporter wanted to give Fernandes some of his own praise.
“You’ve been a kind captain there, giving everybody a bit of praise, so I’m going to give some to you.
“You are always available for this team. You always give everything that you can physically. It is appreciated by the fans all the way around the stadium. I hope you know how much you are loved by the fans.”
Clearly taken aback by the comments, Fernandes replied: “I appreciate that. You’ve got me a little bit emotional because there are good and bad moments, but I am always there for them.”
Bruno Fernandes then revealed that a message from manager Erik ten Hag was the inspiration behind the famous win.
“The first 30 minutes were amazing and he [Ten Hag] said we should get back, have composure to get on the ball and be brave again, not fear the result was going against us,” he added.
“He wanted us to show ourselves, give options and have belief because we’ve done it many times coming back from bad results and we will do it again, that was the message.”
United will now face Coventry City in the semi final at Wembley Stadium.
