“The boss has something going on” – Zlatan hints at exciting development at Old Trafford

"We keep that a secret and enjoy"

“We keep that a secret and enjoy.”

Manchester United fans have been wondering when the club’s transfer activity is going to kick into gear this summer. The club were one of the first major clubs in Europe to sign a key target during the transfer window, signing Brazil international Fred prior to the World Cup in June.

That came after the signing of Portugal teenager Diogo Dalot, and was followed by the signing of 35-year-old goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Out of those three signings though only Fred could be expected to start Manchester United’s first game of the season, and the club remain lacking in key areas of the team, particularly at right-back and centre-back.

Yes, Antonio Valencia has performed impressively during his time at right-back, but he is getting older and new signing Dalot is just 19 years old. At centre-back too, United have just Eric Bailly who one would consider a truly top class defender, with the likes of Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling only ever sporadically competent.

Because of this it was particularly interesting to see former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic appear on the club’s Instagram story on Tuesday. The Swede, who now plays his football with MLS side LA Galaxy, was visiting the squad as they trained at UCLA as part of their pre-season tour in the United States.

Speaking on the Instagram story, Zlatan suggested that while business has been quiet, manager Jose Mourinho might well have something very interesting up his sleeve:

“Be ready for this season because something special will happen. The boss has something going on. We keep that a secret and enjoy. Have a good season and good luck. I wish you all the best.”

It is the quotes “something special will happen. The boss has something going on. We keep that a secret and enjoy” that has particularly piqued the interest of people, leading many to question exactly what secret is being kept under wraps.

Whatever it is, Jose will have to get his skates on, because the transfer window closes
