The tunnel has been long but finally, for Liverpool fans, a chink of light has emerged.

Losing to Everton last Monday would only have added salt to the wounds of an already painful season but suddenly the pain has eased. Suddenly, they have a bit of hope.

Merseyside derbies are so fraught with tension that three points almost feels like six and now that they beat Everton, and played well, Liverpool fans are starting to dream again.

They don’t have long to bask in the glory of that sweet win however because, coming fast down the tracks is a trip Tyneside and a clash with Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s team have so far been the story of the season and, sitting as they are in fourth place in the table, with a defence as solid as theirs’, it’s only right that they go into this game as favourites.

That would have been a hard sell at the start of the year.

Either way, with Liverpool potentially coming back into form, with Newcastle going as well as they are, this one promises fireworks and here below we are giving you a five-fold bet-builder for the game.

The first two legs revolve around any-time goalscorers and we’re banking on Miguel Almiron and Mo Salah. Having come through dry patches, both players scored last time out and they’re the type of streaky players that can go on a run when things start to turn around for them.

Kieran Trippier has already been flashed five yellow cards this season and, with Gakpo and Salah coming to town, the in-form Englishman may struggle with their pace. A sixth yellow may well be on its way.

On the other side of the coin, Andy Robertson will be in for a tough game against the pace of Almiron, Isak and Saint-Maximin and he may resort to fouling. Don’t be surprised if he picks up a yellow.

Given the importance of the game, it could well be cagey and that’s why the final leg of this five-fold is for there to be less than nine corners.

Your five-fold bet-builder

  • Mo Salah to score any-time
  • Miguel Almiron to score any-time
  • Kieran Trippier to get a yellow card
  • Trent Alexander Arnold to get a yellow card
  • Under nine corners

So there you have it, it’s a long-shot but there’s your 201/1  bet-builder.
