Jurgen Klopp’s side have advanced to the last eight of the Champions League with a comfortable victory over the German champions.
Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane (2) got the goals as Liverpool made relatively light work of Bayern, who rarely threatened.
Here is how we rated the Liverpool players:
Alisson Becker – 6
The Brazilian goalkeeper has 20 clean sheets this season, three of them in the Champions League, and while he didn’t keep one on Wednesday, he was rarely tested.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7
Alexander-Arnold was substituted against Burnley on Sunday as a precaution but overcame any fitness doubts to start in Munich. The full-back was an attacking outlet throughout. A composed display.
Joel Matip – 7.5
He was unfortunate to score an own-goal, but was solid at the back, making more tackles (5) than any other player on the pitch.
Virgil van Dijk – 9
Back in the starting line-up after missing the first-leg through suspension, Van Dijk showed why he is so important to the team in both phases of play. It was his pass over the top that led to Mane’s opening goal, and defensively nothing got past him.
Van Dijk’s goal was stunning, a towering header at the back post. It’s difficult to imagine where Liverpool would be without him.
Andy Robertson – 6.5
As always, the Scottish full-back was a constant attacking outlet, always available for a pass down Liverpool’s left-hand side. But he was caught out for Bayern’s equaliser, briefly switching off and failing to recover before Gnabry’s cross was turned in by Matip. Before that, he had been one of Liverpool’s best players.
Georginio Wijnaldum – 6.5
The Dutch midfielder worked hard and covered a lot of ground, making several runs into the Bayern penalty area hoping for the ball to fall. He wasn’t great, but he didn’t have to be as Bayern were strangely meek.
Jordan Henderson – N/A
Liverpool’s captain returned to the starting line-up after sitting out the 4-2 win over Burnley on Sunday. However, he lasted just over 10-minutes before being forced off with an injury.
James Milner – 6
Milner struggled in the game, particularly with his passing, but redeemed himself with an accurate delivery for Van Dijk’s goal.
Sadio Mane – 8.5
Mane has been in sensational form for Liverpool this season domestically, scoring 16 goals in 28 games.
However, it has been a different story in Europe. Mane has scored just once in seven Champions League games this campaign, after netting 10-times in the competition last season.
In Munich on Wednesday night, he carried his league form into Europe, opening the scoring with a wonderfully taken goal. Mane collected the ball on the edge of Bayern’s penalty area, spun away from Manuel Neuer and clipped the ball into the Bayern net with his weaker left foot.
In the final minutes, he secured Liverpool’s place in the last eight with a deft header at the back post.
Mohamed Salah – 7
Heading into the game, Salah last scored a goal over a month ago when he netted in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield. The Egyptian has had chances in those five games to end his drought in front of goal, but couldn’t take them. It was the same story against Bayern. The ball never seemed to land for Salah, but he set-up Mane with a wonderful cross to the back post.
Roberto Firmino – 6.5
Like his fellow Liverpool forwards, Firmino hasn’t set the Champions League alight this season, certainly not compared to his performances last year, when he scored 11 times. He was industrious against Bayern, pressing when Liverpool were without the ball, and attempted to link play without ever making a telling impact in the final third.
Substitutes
Fabinho – 6.5
An improvement on Henderson, the Brazilian midfielder came on early in the game and looked a lot more composed than the team’s captain. He was more comfortable collecting the ball under opposition pressure and passing into Liverpool’s front-three.
