Astonishing statistic really sums up Jamie Vardy’s drop in form this season

Where did it all go wrong?

Jamie Vardy couldn’t be less on fire and Leicester fans are terrified.

It seems an age ago since Jamie Vardy was on top of the world.

The English striker’s performances were instrumental to the Foxes fairytale Premier League win in the 2015/16 season. Vardy found incredible form scoring 24 goals for the Foxes, 11 of which came in consecutive games to see him set a record.

His penchant for finding the net saw him win the Premier League Player of the Season, the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, a spot in the PFA team of the year ahead of Sergio Aguero and he was even linked with a big-money move to Arsenal.

Gooners will be only thrilled that they snapped up Lucas Perez instead of the man who coined the phrase ‘Chat, shit, get banged’ as the Englishman hasn’t come anywhere close to rediscovering that sensational form. All you have to do is look at his tally for the season – two league goals in 12 league games to realise that he isn’t enjoying himself as much this campaign.

His club’s form mirrors his own as Leicester City’s 13 points from 14 games makes them the worst title defenders in Premier League history. They had over double that amount of points – 29 – this time last season.

I believe it was Captain Obvious who once said that in order to score goals, one must test the goalkeeper. Vardy’s statistics in this department perfectly illustrate his barren run. According to the stats from ESPN, he hasn’t had a shot on target in the league since September 10, where he scored during the 4-1 win over Liverpool.

In total, he’s had just four shots on goal spread across two league games – three in the Liverpool match and one against Swansea the prior week, which also resulted in a goal.
