The poor owner - well, he's anything but poor - Tony Xia has come in and spent an absolute fortune in the hope of restoring them to greatness again or at least getting them back to the Premier League. They've spent five years trying to avoid relegation, playing shit football and hanging on for dear life. They've spent five years living in fear until, finally, they fell. Then they came down and met these sides who are not just beating them but completely outplaying them. Probably the byproduct of teams who have, by contrast, spent the same time trying to actually win games and fighting for promotion. But then you look at it and see that only Alan Hutton and Nathan Baker really remain from those Premier League Villa teams. Grealish and Bacuna are on the bench and even Hutton and Baker seem to be on their way out so it's difficult to say that this side has been corrupted by what has gone on before.
