Arsenal fans go into meltdown as Olivier Giroud misses out on Goal of the Month

In fairness, the winning goal was better.

It’s official: Olivier Giroud’s scorpion kick against Crystal Palace wasn’t the best Premier League goal in January.

In fact, it wasn’t even the best Premier League goal scored against Crystal Palace in January.

That honour goes to Andy Carroll, who won the Premier League Goal of the Month award for his bicycle kick in West Ham United’s 3-0 victory over Sam Allardyce’s team.

Now, Arsenal fans are a reasonable bunch, and we’re sure they can appreciate that such an award isn’t the be all and end all.

After all, it’s not like some of them were arguing that Giroud’s goal, scored in January, deserved the December award.

No, there was none of that.

In fact, even before Carroll won his award, plenty of people had convinced themselves that the England international would win, and wind up plenty of Arsenal fans in the process.

Anyway, Carroll’s goal has its own mural outside the London Stadium. If Arsenal really believed Giroud’s was the better of the two then they’d have surely copied the not-at-all-cringeworthy display.

And we’re pretty sure the scorpion kick didn’t convince the club to cancel their internal Goal of the Month vote in its honour.

That measured response from Arsenal fans that we were talking about? Well we’re sure you’ll be able to find it somewhere, but not here.

In fairness, it wasn’t exclusively Arsenal fans.

And there was a new conspiracy theory at play after the award was announced.

They’re really not a happy bunch.
