Arsenal close to signing out of favour Barcelona midfielder

Arsenal are said to be close to signing Barcelona and Spain midfielder Denis Suarez.

The 24-year-old has made just two appearances in La Liga this season for Barcelona and previously played under current Arsenal manager Unai Emery at Sevilla.

AC Milan and Roma are also said to be interested in the player with Suarez stuck behind Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal.

Emery said last month that Arsenal will only dip into the transfer market if he feels he can’t get the required level of performance from his own players but insisted that he is making progress with some of the club’s younger players.

“Only if we think the players can’t help us with a good performance,” he remarked last month.

“January is not a good transfer window for this reason, but we are going to look and the club is working for transfers in January, but also we are in a [good] way.

“We are making progress with young players and giving them chances, and when we need to give them more chances to play and show their progress we are going to do that.”
