Alisson Becker’s father passes away after drowning in Brazil

Jose Becker had been declared missing on Wednesday

The father of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has tragically passed away after drowning in Brazil, local police have confirmed.

Jose Becker, 57, had reportedly been swimming at a dam located on his property close to the the town of Rincao do Inferno, before being declared missing at 5pm local time on Wednesday.

According to ESPN, the local fire department sent a team to assist in the search for Jose Becker, before locating a body just before midnight local time. Authorities say no foul play is suspected.

Tributes have poured in for Becker from a number of football clubs in Brazil following the news.

Internacional, where Alisson and his brother Muriel have both played, tweeted out their condolences to the Becker family, saying: “It is with great sadness that we received the news of Jose Agostinho Becker’s death, the father of our ex-goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel.”

Fluminese, where Muriel currently plays, also expressed their sadness at the news, tweeting: “Fluminense Football Club deeply regrets the death of José Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Muriel and Alisson. We wish his friends and family strength.”
