Derry City have released a statement on the tragedy that took place in Donegal on Sunday night.
Joshua Daniels, a player with the club, lost both his mother Ruth and sister Jodi Lee Daniels after a car slipped off a jetty in Buncrana and into Lough Swilly.
Five lives were claimed in total in the tragedy, the other three of which were two nephews (Mark and Evan) of the young footballer and his brother-in-law (Sean McGrotty).
Daniels - formerly known as Tracey before he took his mother's surname in recent years - is one of the city's brightest young talents.
The magnitude of the tragedy is simply incomprehensible and all our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this truly heartbreaking time.
Derry City have released a statement to offer their full support to young Josh Daniels.
