Ronnie O’Sullivan deemed the £10,000 prize for a 147 at the Welsh Open ‘too cheap’ earlier this week.
The five-time world snooker champion, and arguably the most talented player in the history of the game, passed up the opportunity to go for maximum break in his first-round match against Barry Pinches.
O’Sullivan had potted 14 reds and 13 blacks, but opted for the pink ball rather than play for the black, finishing with a break of 146.
“I could’ve got on the black and made the 147,” the Rocket said after his game.
“To make a ‘max’ is a massive achievement, but there’s only £10,000 for it.”
However, Ding Junhui evidently feels it’s better to have £10,000, than complain that the prize isn’t high enough.
The Chinese player made a maximum break during his quarter-final tie against Neil Robertson on Friday, which he ended up losing 5-2, but has the cash, which Ronnie deemed not good enough, as consolation.
