Peter O’Mahony had a question for Conor Morris when he approached him to get his post-match thoughts after a stunning win over Leinster.
“I think we have a trip to South Africa now, have we?”
He knew well that they did. For a side that were on course for a shaky end to their first season under Graham Rowntree, Munster’s recent two-game trip to South Africa has changed everything.
They beat Stormers, drew with Sharks, then beat Glasgow away in the URC quarter final to set up a tilt against Leinster’s All Stars.
Few would have confidently predicted that Munster would beat Leinster, even though Leo Cullen and Stuart Lancaster took a gamble by resting several of their frontliners ahead of next weekend’s Champions Cup final. Munster defied the odds again, though, and Jack Crowley kicked a 77th minute drop goal to stun their old rivals.

“It was an important one for us,” said Peter O’Mahony, “we don’t have a good record up here.
“It took a big performance, a bit scrappy, struggled at time but we gave ourselves a chance.”
To O’Mahony, Munster’s ability to ‘hang in there’ after Leinster finally kicked into second half gear, was vital.
“I think Ciaran Frawley missed a conversion, so it left us within three points, and Jack had the balls to knock it over, so here we go.”
So often squeamish with choice language in the past, there was no need for RTÉ to apologise on his behalf here – every sports fan in the country knew they could not have put it better than the exhausted, elated Munster captain.

The Munster veteran praised Jack Crowley for his ‘massive, massive’ play before warning that his team needed one more big game if they were to really celebrate this turnaround season under Rowntree.
“Back down we go again… another shot at it.”
