UFC 1 veteran Ken Shamrock has a little bit of advice for Conor McGregor

Different generations

When Ken Shamrock was heel-hooking his way to glory, MMA was a much different sport.

In the days of UFC 1, the only people who knew less than the fighters were the commentators and the only people who knew less than them were the referees.

It was a very unsafe, crazy and almost lawless sport in the old days and a far cry from the heavily regulated, super-produced event that is modern MMA.

UFC 1: The Beginning

And one of the stars of the early years has some advice for the star of mixed martial arts in 2015 as Ken Shamrock has issued a helpful warning to UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

“The only thing that I can see, that I see a lot of guys fall into and it’s a trap,” Shamrock told MMA H.E.A.T. “I went through it and a lot of guys go through it but it’s becoming too much like God.

“You need to check yourself, look yourself in the mirror and realise that it’s just a fight. You’re just fighting another guy and you’re winning and you’re great at this.

“But when we talk about the world and life itself, you have to check yourself.”
