Only in Laois, right?
Clonaslee St Manmans recently set up a ladies gaelic football team, and it’s fair to say the Laois women hit the ground running on Sunday.
The newly formed ladies team organised a fundraising challenge match against their corresponding men’s club’s senior football side, with an added caveat for the males, that they had to wear wellies instead of football boots.
Now any man that has ran after cattle, that has dared to kick a football in a pair of wellington boots, they know the struggle and appreciate their Adidas or their Nike creations more than you could imagine.
As it turned out, the restriction proved to be a bridge too far for the Clonaslee men, as they slipped, tripped and fumbled their way to an eleven point defeat at the hands of the women.
“Some say the men have been falling for the Clonaslee women all their lives, as the wet and slippery weather conditions made for great entertainment for a very supportive Clonaslee crowd,” sideline onlooker Laura Hogan told SportsJOE.
The wet, windy weather, and slippy underfoot conditions only added to the occasion, as the men resembled baby giraffes in their attempts to get near the ball.
To make it even better, Hogan captured the footage from the sideline, beside a crowd who seemed to have no sympathy for the ailing men.
Lads what sort of studs are ye wearing altogether? Oh wait…

The occasion proved to be beneficial, and thoroughly enjoyable for all, apart from the men, maybe, and we’d like to wish the Clonaslee St Manmans women the best of luck with their new team.
