TG4 do it again with highlights of the best hurling game everyone missed

Niall McIntyre

Never mind the game of the weekend, this sounded like the game of the year.

The Kilkenny and Dublin minors played out an epic thirteen goal thriller in O’Moore Park over the weekend. The sides traded blows for a full hour in pursuit of the Leinster minor title and the final scoreline was an absolute sight to behold.

Eventually, the Dubs ran out 7-12 to 6-19 winners over the Cats. That’s 37 points to 33. That’s 45 scores in 62 minutes of hurling. Never mind minor hurling, never mind under-21, has championship hurling ever seen a scoreline quite like it?

Every spectator in Portlaoise got their money’s worth as the fastest and most skilful game on earth delivered once again. Wouldn’t it be a bit of a shame, however, if only those present got to witness the beautiful game at its brilliant best?

Not to fear, TG4 have our backs again. The biggest legends in the GAA have been committed to their underage coverage for years now. From schools games to under-21 games to minor games, Teilifís na Gaeilge have provided detailed and quality coverage of the games that we would have no chance of seeing otherwise.

These are often the games hurling folk are desperate to watch. That’s because they’re players we’ve never seen before and we’re mad to spot the next big things in our own counties and in others.

TG4 will broadcast highlights of that Leinster minor final at 8.00 on Monday evening. It promises to be a great watch because in reality, that whole game sounded like a highlight.

Some of hurling’s next big things will be on view burning it up. 16-year-old Luke Swan scored 3-1 for the Dubs, Liam Dunne alongside him hit Kilkenny to the tune of 2-6.

Kilkenny youngster Ciaran Brennan is one of the brightest young talents in the country, and Conor Kelly has similar potential.
