Stop the lights, a Clare minor has scored one of the most ridiculous points hurling has ever seen

Niall McIntyre

Sean Ronan, what are you even playing at?

Cork have come from six down to lead by one and all the momentum is with them. Clare, with the Cusack Park crowd groaning and with their confidence weaning look a beaten docket.

Sean Ronan from Kilmaley comes onto the pitch. He’s the first sub the Clare management call on, this kid can make a difference.

There are only eight minutes left to make an impact but that’s all this young buck needs.

The Cork backs are messing with it around their own 14 yard line. The sprightly Banner sub smells a chance. He breaks the ball out of the trouble and into the space for himself.

There’s a big chance on here. But the chance looks to have gone. He’s pushed back out, once, twice, he looks like a fella who’s running down a blind alley and towards a lost ball.

But Ronan just keeps on going. He spins around, runs across the end-line. What’s he going to do here?

The man has another catch left but he doesn’t need it. He brings Cusack Park to its knees with one of the finest points it has ever witnessed off the stick.

Clare have the momentum now. Cormac Murphy slots over one more to take the game and they make it into the Munster final against Limerick in a couple of weeks time.

Ronan was the real hero though.
