What’s rare is wonderful.
They’re like aliens to us, aren’t they? We admire them, we’re inspired by them, but we don’t really know much about what they do.
Inter-county players. They’re a different breed. They’re hell-bent, they’re on a mission and they’d literally go through anything to reach their destination.
They’re involved in set-ups that have become so private and so far behind closed doors in recent times that we really don’t have a clue what’s going on there.
Players are hailed, and deservedly so, but we rarely get to see the real person. Not the person that appears in the interviews, the actual person.
AIB embarked on a fly-on-the-wall type initiative with the Roscommon senior footballers this year, and what a year it was to do it.
Kevin McStay’s Rossies’ won their first Connacht Championship since 2010. They ended 7 years of hurt, and this four-part mini-series, entitled, ‘Behind The Gates’ documents the ups and downs of their year superbly.
There’s emotion. There’s passion, blood, sweat, tears. It’s great to finally see what goes on minus the filter we’re so accustomed to.
The four episodes will be released from the 17th to the 20th October.
