The next Diarmuid Connolly does his thing as Marino reign supreme

Niall McIntyre

Marino CBS 3-15 Cáisleán Druimní 2-7

One of the games of the day.

Marino CBS and Cáisleán Druimní played out a thrilling game in their Division One Sciath Kitterick final at the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol finals in Croke Park on Monday.

The Marino lads were wearing the St Vincent’s colours and it’s clear from this display that many of them will line out for Dublin’s most successful club in the future.

They showed what they were about early on with Harry Dinnigan scoring two points on the trot in the first few minutes. Wing forward Dinnigan is a stylish player with plenty of composure, pace and accuracy. He ended his afternoon with seven points, four of the finest coming from open play.

Full forward Ronan O’Neill was the star of the show, however. The ginger haired number 14 has a deceptive dummy and he’s well able to take a score. On top of this, he’s an extremely unselfish player and as well as scoring 1-5 from open play, he set up a good deal more with his defence splitting passes that would remind you of Diarmuid Connolly in his pomp.

Caisleán Druimní didn’t go down without a fight, however. The underdogs were a brave, battle-hardened side with their half back Sean Comiskey summing up their spirit. They fought right until the end and though Marino deserved their victory, they had to earn it.

Dinnigan and O’Neill, amongst others, are ones to watch in the future.
