In and out again.
Less than 20 seconds after being brought on, Waterford’s Maurice Shanahan received a straight red card for an off the ball clash with Cork’s Tim O’Mahoney in the sides’ relegation decider in Páirc Uí Rinn on Sunday.
Many have claimed that it is the quickest sending off in GAA history. It can’t be far off. The Lismore club man literally crossed the white line and ran straight across to the far side of the field.
By the time he had reached his position, Déise goalkeeper Stephen O’Keefe had landed a puck out down on top of Shanahan and his marker.
The Cork number six gained possession from the puck-out and Shanahan tackled him to the ground.
Just as O’Mahoney got rid of possession, in a moment of madness, the Waterford forward pulled a stroke on him leaving the referee with no choice but to issue a red card.
All of that happened within the space of what can’t have been more than 20 seconds.

Shanahan departed the scene and into the dressing room.
Cork went on to win the game by 0-21 to 1-13. John Meyler’s side were full deserving of their victory, and after a topsy turvy League campaign, they live to fight another day.
Bill Cooper and Patrick Horgan were their standout forwards on the day, while Tim O’Mahoney excelled in defence.
Waterford, meanwhile, have been relegated. They were made to rue the absence of the injured Austin Gleeson, the sick Kevin Moran and the snowed in Conor Gleeson in this disappointing loss.
All the talk was about Shanahan’s cameo.
