GAA quash rumours and confirm All-Ireland semi-final fixture

Jack O'Toole

The GAA have confirmed that this weekend’s All-Ireland semi-final replay will be played at Semple Stadium in Thurles.

Galway and Clare played out a classic at Croke Park on Saturday but the game finished in a draw despite two periods of extra-time.

The replay will now be played at Semple Stadium at 2pm on Sunday with the Dublin senior footballers set to take on Roscommon in a dead rubber All-Ireland quarter-final group stage match at Croke Park from 3:30pm.

There had been murmurings that the GAA may move the game to Croke Park given that 54,191 attended the semi-final while Semple Stadium sits just 46,300.

However, a GAA spokesperson confirmed to SportsJOE that the game would be played on Sunday at 2pm with Donegal v Tyrone and Dublin v Roscommon both set to follow at 3:30pm in the final round of the All-Ireland quarter-final group stages.

The news comes after the GAA’s decision to reschedule the All-Ireland U21 semi-final between Galway and Tipperary, originally set for Saturday August 4 in Ennis, will now be played on Wednesday August 8 in Limerick.
