All expats will relate to Leitrim club’s video about the importance of your club

Niall McIntyre

A great initiative by the Leitrim club.

When you meet another Irish person on holidays, the first thing you’ll ask them is where they’re from. Then suddenly, you get to know them a little better.

The conversation develops, and one of the most common follow-up questions will be whether they play a bit of GAA and what club the play for.

And you begin to feel at home and the only thing left is for them to return the question to you. You’re dying to tell them all about your club, where you’re from, the players who’ve played for the county team and have put you on the map.

Then you begin to feel like home isn’t so far away again. That’s when you begin to think about all the good times you enjoyed with your club mates at home and you’d drop everything in a heartbeat to take part in a training session with them again.

Members of Kiltubrid GAA club in county Leitrim are located in places all over the world now. From Dubai to San Francisco to Australia, but just like expats from other clubs all over the country, they’ll never forget their roots.

The club is undertaking a fundraising campaign currently to renovate their playing facilities. In their bid to raise money for the project, they released a video to convey just how much the club means to their members in other corners of the world.

The video, below, was accompanied with a statement that will really hit home with so many in a similar situation.

“Like many rural communities in Ireland, a great number of Kiltubrid people have left their native parish for pastures new to the four corners of Ireland and the world in search of employment and adventure. It is the Irish way.

For those no longer living in the parish, hopefully it invokes a sense of pleasant nostalgia and you can reminisce on the good times spent here.”

You can do exactly that right here.

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.”

You can donate to the club’s campaign via their Facebook page.
