Fans simply could not comprehend how immense Diarmuid Connolly was last night

Sumptuous points off either foot

Patrick McCarry

This Diarmuid Connolly lad… one to watch.

St Vincent’s reached their fourth consecutive Dublin SFC final after a tight 0-12 to 0-11 victory over Ballymun Kickhams. Not for the first or last time, Connolly was the difference between glory and failure.

The Dublin forward kicked four points – two apiece off either foot – to help his side scrape past a resilient Ballymun side in a feisty affair that saw both sides end with 14 men.

Intercounty teammate John Small was marking Connolly so tightly in the first half that the Vincent’s man needed to find himself a new jersey.

Three of Connolly’s scores were from way, way out – ‘the Gods’ as some would say. Each time he look to have been corralled, he would find a yard and send over a bomb.

Albert Martin was the Vincent’s matchwinner but most of the social media chatter was about Connolly’s latest descent from the GAA heavens to grace us with his luminous presence.

A better hurler?

Oh my.

Colm Parkinson is joined by Paul Rouse for a heated debate about Sky Sports’ five-year GAA deal and an exclusive chat with AFL star Zach Tuohy on the new GAA Hour.
