Rough news for David Clifford as Kerry name strong team to face Monaghan

Patrick McCarry

The good news, at least, is that David Clifford will get a weekend off.

Clifford came off injured in The Kingdom’s victory over Mayo, last Saturday, and this is the second game he will miss. The teenage scoring sensation was also forced to sit out I.T Tralee’s midweek loss to D.I.T in the Siegerson Cup. He had previously juggled his club and college commitments with lining out and training for the Kerry seniors.

He showed promising signs on his senior debut but tweaked his hamstring in the Mayo game. The blow came just three minutes after his first point from play in the [green and] gold of Kerry.

Confirmation has come, this evening, that the young Fossa forward is out of the Kerry squad for this weekend’s Allianz Football League clash with Monaghan.

Clifford is one of three Kerry players to miss out on this Sunday’s match at Iniskeen [2pm throw-in]. Gavin Crowley and Sean O Sé are also out of the starting 15, with Andrew Barry, Daithí Casey and Jack Savage all coming in.
