Antrim and Kerry dominate Joe McDonagh All-Stars as Champions 15 named

SportsJOE

The stars of the Joe show.

Joe McDonagh Cup winners Antrim dominated the competition’s team of the year with seven players making the cut while five Kerrymen were also honoured. Two Carlow men, in Chris Nolan and goalkeeper Brian Tracey were chosen while Westmeath’s Aonghus Clarke mans the centre half back slot.

It was a competitive renewal in 2020, with Carlow, Kerry and Antrim impressing in the group stages and eventually it was the latter who prevailed in the Croke Park finale.

Few could argue with the result with Antrim’s scoring power, through Ciaran Clarke and Conor McCann in particular, making them too hot to handle for the rest.

Unfortunately, the awards will not be presented at Saturday night’s All-Star ceremony but it is none-the-less a huge honour for each of these players and their clubs.

Champions 15 (Nicky Rackard & Christy Ring)

Christy Ring Cup champions Kildare have the strongest hand here with four Lilywhites earning a spot. Beaten finalists Down have two in the mix as do Nicky Rackard finalists Donegal and Mayo.

Congrats to all of these players and their club.
