West Ham sign Chelsea wonderkid from under Manchester United and Arsenal’s noses

This is a real coup

One of the hottest young prospects in Premier League football has made a surprise move to West Ham United.

Domingos Quina, a Portuguese forward, was part of the squad which won this year’s European Under-17 Championships.

He joins from Chelsea, despite reported interest from the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

The 16-year-old scored in the group stage win over Scotland and started all but one of Portugal’s games as they went through the tournament unbeaten.

West Ham confirmed that manager Slaven Bilic met personally with Quina, while the club’s academy manager Terry Westley compared the youngster to current West Ham playmaker Manuel Lanzini.

“For me, he has the same qualities as a Manuel Lanzini, in that he likes to come deep and receive the ball and then run with it, while he also possesses the quality to run in behind – he is both a goal-scorer and a goal-creator,” Westley told whufc.com.

West Ham have given first-team opportunities to several teenagers during Bilic’s tenure, with the likes of Reece Oxford, Martin Samuelsen and Djair Parfitt-Williams all getting first-team action last season.

The following clip from FFDTV showcases some of Quina’s abilities, which fans will hope to see at the Olympic Stadium sooner rather than later.
