The Premier League champions impressively dispatched Saints to go second in the table.

Manchester City defeated Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s today in an action packed game. Yaya Toure opened the scoring before City were reduced to 10 players when Eliaquim Mangala was sent off for a robust challenge on Ireland striker Shane Long with 15 minutes remaining.

Saints threw caution to win in search of an equaliser but were dealt a sucker punch when substitute Frank Lampard doubled City’s lead with a strike from outside the box in the 80th minute.

Gael Clichy scored a third goal two minutes from time with an impressive finish following a incisive pass from Sergio Aguero. The Argentine was earlier harshly booked for diving when it appeared he had been hacked down in the Southampton penalty area.
