Vine: Maradona goals, pies and McManaman’s hat; Hull v Newcastle has had it all

From 'The Hand of God' to Inspector Gadget

Robert Redmond

It’s fair to say Hull City hosting Newcastle United isn’t exactly one for the purists.

The Magpies are leading 2-0 thanks to two impressive strikes Remy Cabella and Sami Ameobi respectively, but it’s been all about Steve McManaman’s hat, a thrown pie and Ahmed Elmohamady’s ‘hand of God’ effort.

Cabella opened the scoring for Newcastle in the first-half.

Before Ameobi doubled Newcastle’s lead with this long-range shot

Hull had thought they’d leveled the score just before half-time though. Elmohamady cheekily flicked the ball into Newcastle’s net and ran off celebrating, thinking he’d got away with it. However, the referee had noticed the infringement, disallowed the goal and booked the midfielder.

As the game is being televised by BT, Thierry Henry was not on-hand (sorry) to analyse Elmohamady’s effort.

Viewers were earlier treated to the sight of Steve McManaman dressed as Inspector Gadget.

And one fan is currently pie-less after offering to share his pastry with the Newcastle players.   capture-20150131-141300
