VIDEO: Jonathan Pearce goes full Partridge whilst commentating on Leicester vs Spurs

Ahaaa!

Back of the net!

Jonathan Pearce came over all Alan Partridge during the BBC’s coverage of Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

As well as his trademark facts and observations, the commentator seemed a little befuddled with the modern world as he shared the gantry with Kevin Kilbane.

Whilst waxing lyrical about players of yore such as Leicester’s Hugh McIlmoyle and Spurs’ Cliff Jones, Pearce lamented, “Wonderful footballers…I know they’re not on the games machines that the youth of today play, Kevin I’m told, but great legends of the sport…”

Then, whilst talking about how the King Power Stadium “literally rocks”, the old-timey commentator referred to Claudio Ranieri loving his “heavy rock…or his prog rock…what do they call it these days? I dunno…”

“You don’t know what prog rock was, do you?” he then questioned Kilbane, who offered up the name of Kasabian to bring the conversation back into the 21st century.

Pearce continued regardless, “…The youngsters out there saying ‘Prog rock? What’s that all about? Bobby Smith? Who’s he?’ – here’s Kane!”

Add in a laboured litany of puns about movie trilogies ahead of the third meeting between these sides’ in 10 days and it was pretty much Partridge Yahtzee.

Knowing us, the viewing public, knowing you Jonathan Pearce – AHAAA!
