Really?
We’d only just got over the shock that Hector Bellerin is the fastest player (over 40 metres) to ever line-out for Arsenal, and then we saw this list. The Arsenal defender doesn’t even make it, such is the lightning speeds recorded.
20. Ashley Williams
The Swansea defender clocked 20.98mph
19. Joel Ward
21.03mph from the Crystal Palace full-back.
18. Eden Hazard
Ah here, only 18th? The Chelsea winger recorded 21.05mph, but chances are very few players on this list could run as fast as him with the ball. He’s recorded a slower time than Phil Jageilka, but Hazard will have to content with being the league’s best player, and a league title.
17. Branislav Ivanovic
The Chelsea right-back ran at 21.05mph at his fastest.
16. Neil Taylor
Another Swansea defender makes the top twenty, Taylor reached 21.06mph this season.
15. Phil Jagielka
This entry really surprised us. The Everton centre-half is seemingly a lot quicker than he appears, clocking 21.07mph.
14. Danny Ings
21.11mph from the Burnley forward, no wonder Liverpool are interested.
13. Jason Shackell
Another Burnley player who’s no slouch, 21.18mph at his fastest this season.
12. Ryan Bertrand
The Fantasy Football points machine is also pretty nippy, 21.18 mph from the Southampton defender.
11. Christian Eriksen
The Spurs midfielder really is an all-round excellent footballer. Brilliant on the ball, great from set-pieces, covers lots of ground and is also one of the fastest in the league. 21.19mph from Eriksen
10. Jake Livermore
21.19mph from the Hull midfielder.
9. Jack Colback
The first of two Newcastle midfielders in the top ten, Colback has clocked 21.20mph this season.
8. Steven Caulker
He may be on course to suffer two consecutive relegations, but Caulker is running fast doing so. The QPR defender recorded 21.27mph at his fastest.
7. Jordan Henderson
21.30mph from Liverpool’s vice captain. He’s also leads the league in hops.
6. Nathaniel Clyne
The Southampton defender is the fastest defender on the list, recording 21.41mph.
5. Wayne Rooney
The second oldest player in the top ten, the United captain clocked 21.42mph this season.
4. Ahmed Elmohamady
21.62mph from the Hull winger.
3. Raheem Sterling
If only Sterling’s contract negotiations could be resolved as quick, the Liverpool forward recorded 21.78mph at his fastest this season.
2. Stewart Downing
The 30 year old West Ham winger recorded an impressive 21.79mph this season.
1. Moussa Sissoko
22mph from the Newcastle midfielder, no player has ran as fast this season. It’s as though Sissoko is looking to run away from St James Park.
