It’s tough at the bottom.
Just ask RKC Waalwijk. Languishing at the foot of the Dutch second division is not much fun at all.
And it’s certainly not great if you’re trying to fill your stadium.

So what do you do to try and bring the crowds back to your ground if your players are rubbish? You can’t exactly sell them and buy a new team.
But you can control the mascots, which is why RKC Waalwijk ditched the usual youngsters who accompany the team onto the pitch and replaced them with lingerie models.
The pretty tasteless gimmick – a one-off for Valentine’s weekend – didn’t exactly work (RCK still lost 1-0 at home to Fc Emmen) but it certainly put a smile back on the players’ faces.

And that’s surely what the bumper crowd really wanted to see –underperforming players smiling while holding hands with lingerie models.
Well played, modern football. Well played.
