Robbie Keane up against LA Galaxy teammate in MLS Goal of the Year vote

Last 16

They really squeeze every last drop of juice out of this.

To say that Robbie Keane’s goal against Portland Timbers last month was one of the MLS’ top 32 goals would not be a stretch.

Goal of the Year now? That may prove to be a spectacular strike too far.

The Irish striker’s sweetly struck effort against Timbers, which was teed up by LA Galaxy teammate Juninho, made the 32-goal shortlist for the accolade.

Goal of the Year is done differently from your Match of the Day efforts. 32 scores are selected and placed into brackets ahead of a knock-out competition voted on by the public.

Keane’s goal has already made it past the first round and is in the last 16.

To reach the last eight, Keane must receive more votes than teammate Gyasi Zardes, who scored this against New England Revolution earlier in the season.
