Premier League reject is Europe’s best creator this season

On a plate

Tom Victor

Mesut Özil might have the most assists in the Premier League this season, but another familiar face has actually created more clear-cut chances.

Özil has set up 15 goals for his Arsenal team-mates, but has only created 16 clear-cut chances. That means either his team-mates have been on fire, or he’s been putting the ball on an absolute plate for them. Bit of both, probably.

Only one man has more in Europe’s top five leagues – former Manchester United flop Angel Di Maria, with 17.

Real Madrid CF v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League

Di Maria has set up nine goals for his team-mates as they have opened up an absurd 19-point lead at the season’s halfway mark.

He’s even had time to score six in Ligue Un, and three more in the Champions League.

The below stat, from WhoScored’s Ben McAleer, shows that two players (including Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan) are level with Özil.

When you’ve got free-scoring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in front of you, it all seems so easy.
