Potential backline for Bournemouth match enough to have Manchester United reaching for rosary beads

Manchester United are still in the Premier League title race, at present, because they can keep clean sheets.

That may all be about to change.

The back four was damaged even further, midweek, when Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian limped off injured in the 3-2 Champions League defeat to Wolfsburg.

The pair will miss this Saturday evening’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth and join Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia [he’s not still a midfielder, is he?] on the sidelines.

It means United could line up with one of two possible back fours.

Ashley Young has filled in as right back before and could well be asked to do so again. Guilermo Varela continues at left back and Paddy McNair is recalled to partner Daley Blind in the centre of defence.
